What are we talking about?

Surrey County Council (SCC) and Surrey Waste Management (SITA) have been working towards a planning proposal for a municipal waste incinerator for the disposal of Surrey's waste. One third taller than Nelsons column, this 300 feet high funnel will spew noxious gas into the atmosphere, all over Surrey, Berkshire and parts of Buckinghamshire.
The plan identifies only two sites within the whole County as being suitable for waste incineration facilities. After some eighteen months of legal process we anticipate planning application will shortly be submitted for an initial 160000 ton p.a. waste Incinerator to be located on Green Belt land (bought by SCC in 2006) at Trumps Green. The site is in a residential road adjacent to the Wentworth Estate and Chobham Common, a designated National Nature reserve and SSSI.
Why have other, more suitable sites been ignored? Just 6 miles away there is an incinerator of 440,000mt capacity which has spare capacity. The Wisley site is based on an old airfield with good access to the M25/A3. The choice of the Trumps Green site for a 24/7 Incineration plant is unsound and now is the time to raise our voices in a barrage of objection.
